IPS Eligibility Criteria
The candidates willing to join IPS must fulfill the below-mentioned criteria before they appear for the UPSC CSE exam. The details of eligibility criteria are given below:
1. Nationality: In order to apply for UPSC IPS posts, a candidate should be a citizen of India.
2. Age Limit: The candidate should have attained the age of 21 years and must not be more than 32 years as on August 01, 2021. This means that candidates must have been born not earlier than August 02, 1989, and not later than August 01, 2000.

IPS Prelims Exam Pattern
UPSC Prelims is an offline exam consisting of objective type questions. The exam is conducted for a total of 400 marks (two compulsory Papers of 200 marks each). The total time duration for each of the papers is 2 hours while 20 minutes extra is given to visually impaired candidates. For every wrong answer, one-third of the marks allocated to the question will be deducted. The paper comes in two languages Hindi and English. IPS Mains Exam Pattern
IPS Mains is a pen and paper-based examination. The paper is both Objective and Subjective in nature. Each paper in Mains carries 250 marks. The Mains exam has 9 papers (two of which are qualifying in nature) and the questions are asked in both Hindi and English. The time duration of the UPSC IPS is 3 hours for each paper. Foundation Course: It is the first stage of IPS training where candidates are trained with fellow officers from All India Services and the training is conducted in LBSNNA.
Phase 1 Training: This phase of training is conducted at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Academy, Hyderabad. This is an intense phase of training where IPS officers are groomed at physical and professional levels to manage his/her roles and responsibilities.
District Practical Training: This is the most interesting phase of IPS training where an officer has practical exposure to day to day policing and challenges that the police department comes across to maintain law and order of the city/ town.
Phase 2 Training: This is the final stage of training IPS officers which is again conducted at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Academy, Hyderabad.
